Marguerite – Golf Kamloops Full Experience 2017 Winner

Marguerite was the lucky winner of the Global BC and Golf Kamloops.   The event took place on the weekend of August 19th – 21st.   The group consisted of (left to right): Sheri – partner of Warren and golf fashion designer, Dave – Helpful carrier of the luggage and driver for Marguerite to the event, Marguerite – Executive in charge of winning contests, Warren – Cousin of Marguerite and wanna be golf pro.   The group stayed at the Hilton Double Tree in beautiful downtown Kamloops. Local transportation was provided by Tasteful Excursions, a family owned and run business in Kamloops. Tasteful Excursions is owned by Maatje (Maacha) and Gordon which had the pleasure of hosting them inside one of their new deluxe tour buses for the weekend.   They provided not only transportation but local highlights and information as well as three bonus stops – two local wineries and a herd of mountain sheep! The tours to the wineries offered an introduction to the wine industry in Kamloops.   Their first stop was Monte Creek Winery where they sampled the full array of wine that has been carefully crafted at the on-site production facility. After careful consideration the group selected suitable sustenance for the long journey back to Kamloops.   The next stop was at Harper’s Trail winery on the north shore of the Thompson River where they were warmly welcomed by staff at the tasting bar. They sampled the entire lineup of Harper’s products and enjoyed a bit of history on the local soil and prevalence of additional minerals in certain parts of the vineyard (which made a difference on the palette that uses the same varietal of grape).   The weekend was designed to get the group to experience 3 of the local courses in Kamloops to which they selected: Rivershore Golf Club, Talking Rock Golf Club, and Kamloops Golf and Country Club. Each of the courses offered different challenges. Rivershore challenged the group with 95 bunkers along the 6351 yard course. “We managed to miss a few of the bunkers but club selection was key in bunker avoidance strategy.”   Talking Rock offered 6111 yards from the white tees. The course is built into the forest and they felt like they had the entire course to themselves when playing each hole. “Some of the uphill, around the right hand corner holes, and strategically placed bunkers offered a challenge to us all.”   They completed the weekend at Kamloops Golf and Country Club. The local members welcomed them and offered tips about the course before they started. “One of the highlights of the weekend was the dinner provided by the Noble Pig, and when we say dinner, we are talking about the wow, over the top four course even planned and presented by Chef Jason and restaurant manager Sara.”   “It was a memorable family weekend and we would sincerely like to thank Jennifer and the folks at Golf Kamloops and Tourism Kamloops for making this happen. We will be sharing our weekend experiences with other family and friends; letting them know about the warm hospitality and great golf offered in Kamloops.”
