Golfing and skiing in the same day… heck yes! Spring in BC’s Interior delivers that anticipated time of year where outdoor enthusiasts can combine the two sports they love in one day. Just picture it – strap on your planks or board for a morning of groomers and deep carves on one of two great mountains located less than an hour from the city, then grab your sticks and swing your way to the first tee for 18 holes of early season golf in the afternoon. Because in Kamloops, you can.
With many local golf courses opening in early March, there is the unique opportunity to tick another box on your bucket list of BC iconic adventures.
Early Flag Drops
The low elevation, riverside location of The Dunes and Rivershore Golf Links lend perfectly to early season golf, as they will likely announce openings for early March. Following closely behind are typically The Kamloops Golf & Country Club and Bighorn Golf & Country Club (formerly Sun Rivers). All 8 iconic Golf Kamloops courses will likely be dropping flags by early April including BC’s top ranked tracks Tobiano and Talking Rock.
Hitting the Slopes
The beauty of this matched day of adventure is that Kamloops boasts two incredible ski destinations to carve into. Harper Mountain is a short 20-minute drive from downtown Kamloops and offers a rustic, quaint ski mountain experience like no other. Cozy up for lunch with a poutine by their large wood fireplace or take a quick spin down the Snow Town Tube Park while you’re there.
BC’s 2nd largest ski area, Sun Peaks Resort, is set to remain open until April 10th presenting plenty of time for a golf and ski pairing. The well known resort serves up some of the best in spring skiing with three mountains of gladed zones, corduroy groomers, and powder pockets for all skill levels. If downhill skiing is not your jam, strap on the skinny skis and glide through their 37km of track set trails or stride through snow by snowshoe.
This crossover typically only happens once a year, for a short period of time, and only if all conditions line up. So take advantage and get out there!
