6 Holes That Make Fall Golf Great

Fall golf is undoubtedly the best time of year to tee it up at your local track. With the heat subsiding and the colours changing, it’s the perfect combination for an enjoyable day on the links. Here are some notable holes that you’ll be dreaming about in the off season.

#6 at Tobiano Golf 

Among the collection of magical golf holes that call Tobiano home, one in particular was carefully crafted to be the long shot of the layout’s front-nine. While players are met with an incredible scenic green here at the par four #6, there’s some work to be done before we get there.

Golfers are faced with a demanding tee shot through a familiar canyon, and tricky approach shot that requires some serious attention. The undulated green sits atop the cliffs resembling an infinity pool, and constantly deceives players trying to hit one tight here. Keep your eyes open for this spectacular hole heading towards the turn.

#15 at Talking Rock Golf Course

Often in the conversation for one of Canada’s most picturesque golf holes, the par three #15 at Talking Rock Golf Course is immediately recognizable. Carefully placed tee boxes provide players an amazing vista to enjoy this lake view masterpiece, and offers a panoramic view of the Shuswap Valley.

Players will need to dodge the cavernous bunkers that cling to the sides of this large sloped green, and need to be missed to score well on this hole. Overlooking the east end of Little Shuswap Lake, Talking Rock’s #15 landscape is especially beautiful as the colours change throughout the fall months.

#10 at Rivershore Golf Links

What a way to start the back-nine at Rivershore Golf Links. The fairway of the par four #10 slashes through the inland lake that carves through the layout, leaving players to navigate two water hazards on their way to the green. A handful of tall pines block the right side of the fairway – stay clear.

Being one of the only true links layouts in Kamloops, Rivershore reveals its true colours in the fall months with dry conditions that match the European feel it provides. Hole #10 is a great demonstration of how this unique golf course blends western architecture with old fashioned designs.

#3 at Kamloops Golf & Country Club

One of Kamloops Golf and Country Club‘s most popular holes, players can expect a par or better to get their round rolling at the par five #3. Following a fairly straight tee shot to a narrowing fairway, the second shot is where things get interesting.

The false front green is littered with sand traps along the right, and a large water hazard to the left protects attempt at reaching the green in two. Fall conditions set up this hole to be a beautiful walk through the park at KGCC.

#16 at Eagle Point Golf Resort

One of the most memorable tee shots on the back-nine at Eagle Point Golf Resort, the par four #16 is a steep, downhill dog-leg right that bends nearly 90 degrees around a mountain. If you’re feeling like a pro, pull out the big stick and pick a distant tree on the hill as a target.

After the extreme elevation drop, this great golf hole leads players back uphill to a green built into the hill, and is guarded by a punishing bunker to the left. Due to its elevation, Eagle Point’s design thrives especially well in the months of September and October with matured greens and lush fairways.

#5 at The Dunes at Kamloops 

Last but not least, the par four 5th at The Dunes at Kamloops. This deceptively long hole plays favour to golfers that strike their irons with precision, and especially those that know how to work the flat stick. Autumn golf here is a true pleasure; just look at this place.

With water left and some nasty fescue to the right, there’s really no “good miss” on this hole. Tee it high and send it over the trees that lean into the fairway, and you’ll have a good look at this horseshoe, three-tiered green. They call this place Kamloops’ true nature course, and it’s easy to see why when the fall colours roll in.
